Debate blog

Today, we had an epic debate at NUS law faculty, the heavyweights. I'll just describe in brief. we won RI and RJC, and we were really, really happy. Am i being a sadist? I hope not. Am I too cruel? So, it was a double win for HCI or HCJC. yay, so happy, lah. Today was Valentine's day. Seeing most of my seniors go with their gf, a sense of disappointment and guilt struck me.

Sigh.

Today did and didn't live up to its name. Well, i got 23, the highest in our class, but I'm scared Ill become complacent.

Today, Miss Soh attempted to attract us to pay attention in class,by using game pictures, but that sort of backfired. Well, I thought over it, and some of it is my fault, not being able to control the class's discipline.

Emo. Valentine's day emo. Damn, could not bring her out today. Tomorrow I have a debate. I'm a failure.

Blog song

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friendship lives forever
but intelligence, never
what you do is what you get
in this cruel and brutal world
They laugh and tease you,
and your face is changing hue,
Let's start with Charlie Gordon,
a retarded man like you...
I want to be smart
Charlie stuttered
His heart fluttered
As his journey started
His grammar, spelling and punctuation was poor,
His imagination was poor,
I couldn't think of a thing
That could make his mind go "ting!"
He was a nice guy
pity he was retarded
one day he went for an operation
that would change his life forever
Then he met a lab rat,
one called Algernon,
it had to solve mazes to be able to eat
which he found pitiful.
As life progressed,
he became in distress,
his friends slipped away,
as he went awry
He wanted to become smart
to prove to his friends he was smart
instead he lost all his friends,
not even one remained.
He met a woman,
Miss Kinnian, who was his tutor
Blossoms developed
As they promised to live together forever.
However, good or bad things don't last forever,
His intelligence neither
His intelligence slipped away,
with his memory and love forever.
He realized many things though
His friends were not real friends
They were bullying him,
till he became smarter
Technology was a fascinating subject,
he realized he was a lab rat,
it was like being kept in cage,
not knowing what would happen to you next.
As Algernon died one day,
Charlie realized that would happen to him too.
The experiment was evidently a failure,
and Charlie was becoming one too.
As he laid retarded and ill,
he reflected what had happened to him,
He got his friends back,
But he always remembered his real friend: Algernon.
Taximan Story
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. What is the irony of the story?

The irony of the story is that on the surface his attitude towards the young generations was very bad, and he was speaking very badly of the teenagers. However, in reality, he depends on them for a living, and that is the only reason why he likes them, because he brings a source of income for him.

2.What are the themes raised in the story?

The main themes raised in the story are regarding rebellious youth in this times. Parents are losing control over their children, and this story also touches on the weakening link between children and parents, and is a strong remainder for families to bond together in times of need.

3. How realistic is the story?

The story is quite realistic as the author effectively captures the rebellious children from a third-person point of view. However, about the taxi driver slapping the daughter in front of the public is kind of unrealistic. Although the taxi driver was angry, but I believe that the taxi driver would be so daring as to show the public that he is such a harsh father. I believe that many people in this situation would feel very embarrassed.

4. What do you think of the taximan? Do you feel sympathy for him?

I think of the taximan as a father who is outspoken and very harsh. The taximan should not have beat his daughter up as it is not entirely her fault. A partial amount of blame should be put on the parents. If the parents had counselled her or approached her when she started showing signs of mixing with bad company, the girl would not be in this state.

5. Do you agree with this lamenting.

I agree partially with his comments. He is too overreactive, and he complains too much. Frankly speaking, I was getting irritated with his continual complaining. However, I do agree with some of his views, especially with his point of rebellious youth who do not listen to their parents' instructions.

6. What about the other characters in the story? Do you fell sympathy for them?

This part is a joke. I feel sympathy for the female passenger as she had to bear the continual lamenting and blabbering of the taxi driver.

Back to the serious part. I feel that Lay Choo and her parents are at fault. Lay Choo should be blamed for mixing with bad company and her parents are to be blamed for not taking care of her properly and counselling her when she started showing signs of mixing with bad company.

I feel sympathy with Lay Choo as she had to be beaten up by her dad.

Blog prompt 5

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen,
Harming animals for the sake of our benefits is totally unacceptable. Animals should be treated as they are, and not as experimental prototypes where we hunt the animals for their body parts as medical ingredients. Animals have their own rights, they have the right to live, and not the right to die. You may ask, how about those who need animal parts? Well, you can always replace them with plant parts.
Cruelty to animals is, as its name says, cruel. When you hunt animals for their body parts as medicinal ingredients, you are depriving them of their right to live, and not respecting rights.
SO, in the end animals are killed for our survival. Is that really what you want? Maybe twenty years down the road, when the animals species is extinct, do you want your children or grandchildren say,"Hey, my dad/grandfather caused the extinction of this animal species?". Our actions today will affect our life tomorrow. Thank you.
Well, since I'm a very health-conscious person, I don't really like to eat canned or processed food. However, I do enjoy western food and I have heard that some vendors use processed food. Chicken and meat can be processed, but not till the extend where the taste is not there. As you may know, not all companies are credible, thus not all processed food is always safe. However, the main aim of processed food is to modify the food so as to make the food safer to eat. So I think that of we take all foods in moderation, we will be healthy.
Blog prompt 2:
Imagine a boy lazing around everday, playing computer games and another boy studying everday until 12 midnight, burning the midnight oil everyday. 20 years down the road, who will succeed? Let me tell you. Neither of them will succeed, as both of them did not set realistic goals.
Goals. For example, if you are playing soccer without a goal post, you will not know where to shoot, thus you will be wandering around, with no goal and aim in life. Without goals, you will not be able to succeed in life, as you have nothing to work for, nothing to motivate you, nothing to push you forward that will make you succeed in life.
So, what can you do to start planning your goals. Start planning realistic goals, for example, in the field of academia, personal life, et cetera. I take myself as an example. I have set a goal to run a 20 kilometres marathon, and I must strive for this goal, thus I will start practise running everyday, increase my water intake, regulate my salt intake, make sure I have ample sleep, etc. So after ample preparation, I am prepared to run this marathon as I have set a goal and I have achieved it.
I hope that after reading this article, you will ponder about your future, and set goals for yourself so that you can succeed in life.
1st blog prompt:
Week 2 blog prompt:
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,
I am Mr Sia, a memeber of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
What did you have for lunch? Whale meat? If that's what you ate, you might want to think again after my speech. Imagine animals suffering, bleeding in pain for mankind's sake, mankind's delicacies. Put our selves in the shoes of the whales who are cruelly treated and die in the end. What if one day you were chopped up and your whole species was massacred, how would you feel? You may think that there are many whales for the fishers to catch, but isn't true at all. Our whales are facing extinction, and we must do something about it! We cannot let whales suffer for our inappropriate behaviour. I have a few tips that you might want to consider:
Firstly, replace whale meat with fishes like sardine, or food like vegetables. Secondly, persuade your friends, relatives and family to not eat whale meat.
Remember, everyone can do their part in saving the whales. With this, i thank you for your kind attention.
